What is a Trading Account?

What is a Trading Account?

A trading account is the account through which you place buy and sell orders in the stock market. While a Demat account is where your shares are stored, a trading account is the tool you use to actually execute transactions. Think of it this way - the trading account is the door through which you enter the market, and the Demat account is the locker where your investments are kept.

When you want to buy shares, you use your trading account to place the order. Once the order is executed, the shares are credited to your Demat account. When you want to sell, the shares are debited from your Demat account and the money is credited to your linked bank account. This entire process in India happens within T+1 settlement, meaning transactions are settled within one working day after the trade date, as per current SEBI norms.

A trading account is always linked to both your Demat account and your bank account to ensure a smooth flow of shares and funds. First Demat offers an integrated platform where your trading account, Demat account and bank account work seamlessly together, giving you a simple and efficient investment experience.
